  • What is an Attorney?
    • An Attorney is a person who: –
      • Qualified to study Law.
      • Obtained a four-year University Law Degree at an accredited University.
      • Completed articles for at least two years at a registered law firm.
      • Passed four admission exams.
      • Worked as a candidate Attorney for at least two years.
      • Successfully applied to the High Court to be admitted as an Attorney.
      • Worked for at-least three years as an Attorneys before being eligible to work in the High Courts of South Africa.
      • THUS: an attorney is a qualified professional who studied, applied and trained for at least seven years to practice as an Attorney.
    • Checks and Balances
      • Trust Accounts
        • Attorneys are held accountable for all Trust Account transactions.
        • All interest accrued in a Trust Account belongs to the client.
        • Attorneys Trust Accounts are annually audited by auditors and submitted to the LPC.
        • If an Attorney mismanages the Trust Account, the Attorney can be struck of the roll and held accountable for losses and damages.
      • The Legal Practise Council (LPC) of South Africa
        • Is the overseeing body for all Attorneys in South Africa.

      • Oath of Affirmation
        • All Legal Practitioners (Attorneys, Advocates, Magistrates and Judges) are bound by their Oath of Office, to uphold the rules, Laws and Constitution of South Africa.
